Investigative Genetic Genealogy is a new tool available for law enforcement to use in assisting with identifying a suspect(s) in violent crimes, specifically in "Cold Cases." Cold Cases are investigations where all traditional leads have been exhausted and often the case is not actively being investigated.
Generally, the suspect has either not been identified or there is not enough physical evidence to pursue prosecution. Although many of these cases are not routinely profiled in the media, the family and survivors of these violent crimes live without justice or any form of resolution.
Investigative Genetic genealogy is often expensive, making it difficult for local police and sheriff's departments to pursue. The goal of the Robin Brooks Foundation is to assist law enforcement agencies by providing funds for forensic genetic analysis and research.
